KUALA TERENGGANU: Trainee doctors will now get a day off after carrying out their 24-hour on-call duty.

Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said the directive will take effect immediately.

He said it applies only to housemen on active call and at the hospital the entire time.

“We will not let these trainee doctors be overworked. We will look into their welfare,” he told reporters yesterday after visiting the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital.

Liow was asked to comment on grouses from trainee doctors that they sometimes had to work almost 24 hours and then report to their superiors the next day.

Some trainee doctors complained that they had to work seven days a week without a single rest day during their two-year stint in government hospitals as housemen.

Liow said trainee doctors should also be allowed to concentrate on getting the right exposure and medical proficiency by giving them off-days.

A trainee doctor at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, who only wanted to be known as Sally, said she was relieved to hear that the ministry would look into their welfare.

“Frankly, we are very exhausted as we have to focus on our training and also carry out clinical rounds frequently,” she said. “It is stressful.”

Sally said she and her colleagues were unable to pay attention during their stints due to fatigue and time constraints.

On another matter, Liow said about 4,000 Chikungunya cases were reported throughout the country this year.

He said the virus was first detected in Johor and spread to several states, the latest being Kedah.

HURRAY!!!!...24hour day off...even if its a 6hours day off also i'll be jumping happily. yes, we work 24-7 and doubtlessly we are the group of people who contributes to tanjung rambutan residents. understood and fair enough, the workloads are crazy in government hospital but it will be useless still if we only work our ass off till it burns but we are not efficient at work. we do need rest.

and doctors who only play but not work at all are fat, ugly, lazy old pig. (these are the kind of people who likes to escape from work and sleep during oncall).
so work really hard when you have to work, and play really hard when you have the time to play.

Chikungunya fever is a viral disease transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito.

The incubation period of chikungunya fever is usually 3-7 days. The symptoms are very similar to that of dengue, but unlike dengue, hemorrhagic or shock syndrome does not take place with chikungunya fever.

The infected person may experience the following symptoms:

  • fever
  • chills
  • headache
  • fatigue
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • muscle pain
  • rash
  • joint pain.

There are currently no medications or vaccines for the treatment of chikungunya fever. However lots of rest, a nutritious diet, plenty of fluids and mild pain medications may relieve symptoms of fever and body aches.

Bleach Frenzy

While admiring the newest character in Bleach, Shukuro Tsukishima, suddenly had an idea. What if Bleach turns into live action movie or drama, who should be in the cast? After a very intensive and long hours research, I came out with this list. Unfortunately, i can only able to come out with some of the characters. It was a very tough decision indeed. 1) Kurosaki Ichigo I couldn't find any Japanese actor that can fit for Ichigo. Well, most of them think that Ikuta Toma may have a chance for it but, errr he is not quite really. None. That's final. they may need to use CGI for Ichigo's character. He is so perfect in the manga and anime!! Ichigo has a very serious face but Toma-kun looks cute. So I don't think he is suitable to be Ichigo. 2) Inoue Orihime - Triendl Reina Initially i was thinking of the sweet haruka ayase or ayumi hamazaki. tough dude. it was tough. this whole week has been the most unluckiest and the most depressing moments i've ever have in my whole life. so depressing that i have to take an EL today. my first ever EL. i'm glad i did it. i don't really care about the consequences for now. 1)first, my rushie went down the drain. yes. shocking!!!. it was 5 in the morning. i never realized that there was a drain in front of the house until last monday. it was a disaster. and i was oncall on that day. they have this stupid rules that those oncall housemen need to take blood very very early in the morning. so i was panic. thank God to Minah gitar karat who was oncall the day before for helping me with the blood. (nanti aku belanje makan, hehe.) i already considered late to work and bam, both rushies' front tires in the drain. but i must say Toyota's service is so great. i called the service center and in minutes they sent me a tow truck, tell me the procedure so that i can claimed my insu
